Ashanti regional Circles Chairman Obeng Sekyere has furiously denied pretentiously taking money from Asante Kotoko Executive Chairman Dr. Kwame Kyei to seek for spiritual intercession for the club as is being alleged by staunch supporter Seidu.
The no nonsense supporter alleged on Focal Sports on FOX FM that the regional Circles chairman together with current national Circles Chairman Kwaku Amponsah (famously known as K5) swindled the club chairman to an amount of GHC20,000 to allegedly seek spiritual prayers for the success of the club, but failed to use the money for the intended purpose.
Seidu made these allegations with certainty, an issue which triggered an instant response from Obeng Sekyere who rushed to the studio to debunk the image soiling allegations and sought to set the records straight to Seidu and all Kotoko supporters who may be carrying same perceptions, or tempted to buy into the unjustified claims of Seidu.
“The reason why Dr. Kyei doesnt like ‘operations’ in football is because they (Obeng Sekyere and chamirman K5) took GHC20,000 from him for spiritual prayers for Kotoko to win a match but they misappropriated the money”, Seidu alleged.

In his response, chairman Obeng emphatically denied the allegations by claiming neither him nor his boss has ever demanded even a penny from Dr. Kyei to carry out any operation of such.
“I’m stating it on record that since the appointment of Dr. (Kwame Kyei as Executive Chairman of Asante Kotoko) neither me nor chairman K5 have never asked for a penny to do something for Kotoko, I’m saying it on record”, Obeng Sekyere declared on Focal Sports. “We’ve never told Dr. to give us GHC1.00 or GHC2.00 to go seek for prayers for Kotoko”, he insisted.
According to unconfirmed reports however, chairman Obeng Sekyere took some amount from the Asante Kotoko management in October 2019 for preparation and transporting supporters for the MTN FA Cup final match between Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak in Tamale, a match which the Porcupine Warriors won 3-1.
Asked whether these reports are valid, Sekyere admitted his leadership received money from the management who pre-financed Circles upon the request of MTN Ghana, the club’s headline sponsor.
“It was myself who went to MTN to ask for money to bus supporters to Tamale, they asked us to submit a proposal which we did, but the MTN process is such that they don’t pay upfront cash so they made (Kotoko) management to pre-finance”, Obeng explained.
“The budget we sent was GHC19,000, (we provided) one bus for Greater Accra (Circles) and two buses for Ashanti region, ask how much it costs to get to Tamale individually? We did it and they gave it to us, so the management paid and MTN paid the money back to management. Moreover, everything we do is financed from our own purse, if I had money personally (to intercede for Kotoko as expected) we would have beaten Al Hilal by 4 goals”, he claimed.
