The Black Stars are faced with daunting but achievable task of a must win match against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the group F second match on Saturday and the Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Cudjoe Fianoo, has assured Ghanaians of huge possibility of a win for the Black Stars over the “not unbeatable” side.
Ghana scrambled to 2-2 draw with Benin in their opening match on Tuesday, a match in which many Ghanaians were extremely confident of an easy win for the four times African champions. The result has left many Ghanaians demoralized as they begin to cast doubts over the Black Stars ability to beat holders Cameroon to brighten up Ghana’s chance of qualifying to the round of 16 stage of the tournament.
Contrary to the fears in the country, GHALCA Chairman and former Ashanti Gold SC CEO Fianoo, who is with the Stars in Ismailia, Egypt, has sought to raise hopes by assuring victory over Cameroon on Saturday.
“The game against Cameroon the players will even be motivated, I always say that when you are entering a game as an underdog it’s better than going as a favourite, because as a favourite complacency can set in”, Fianoo said in an interview with FOX FM on Focal sports.
Fianoo further assured that Ghanaians that the Stars will pull a surprise against the Indomitable Lions by winning the match. “It will be surprise to all Ghanaians that the Cameroon we all fear we’ll pick a win from there, I have been with Black Stars when we travelled to Duala in Cameroon to beat Cameroon at their own backyard, so it’s not that they are unbeatable, they are beatable, so for me when we get the places in the right position and they are motivated to die for Ghana we will write a good story when we play our next game against Cameroon”, Fianoo assured.
The Black Stars were denied a place in the Cup of Nations final in Gabon 2017 after losing the semi final 2-0 to Cameroon at the Stade De Franceville, and are now bent on making amends to take a revenge against five times champions of Africa come Saturday.
