Kano Pillars Ghanaian goalkeeper Ibrahim Iddrisu has vowed to lead his side to eliminate Asante Kotoko from the CAF Champions League preliminary stage as the two lock horns with each other in early August following the draw last Saturday.
Asante Kotoko have returned to the Champions league for the first time since 2015 and have been handed a very tough draw against Nigeria’s Professional Football League side Kano Pillars, and former Ashanti Gold SC goalkeeper Ibrahim Iddrisu, who joined the Kano based club in February, has vowed to lead his side to eliminate the Porcupine Warriors over the two legs encounter.
“I will thank everyone because from day one looking at the support I get from the people of Ghana till I became number one is due to their support that gave me that opportunity and I will thank everyone for praying for me to come this far”, Iddrisu told Fox FM on Focal Sports. “I will also do everything I can to help myself and help them (Kano Pillars) and Insha Allah we shall eliminate Kotoko, insha Allah we shall eliminate them”, he vowed.
According to Iddrisu, it’s been a long time since Pillars played in the Champions League and are poised to go beyond the group stages this time. He stated that their target for this year’s competition is to progress beyond the group stages, meaning they will have to go pass Asante Kotoko over the two legs clash if their target is to become a reality.
“I will say it’s been a very long time since Kano Pillars played in the Champions League, always their target is the Champions League and this time that we have the Champions League football, the preparations are aimed at going beyond the group stages, that is their target for now, that’s let us go beyond the group stages”, Iddrisu revealed.
Asante Kotoko will kickoff their 2019/2020 Champions League season campaign against Kano Pillars on August 9-11, with the Porcupine Warriors scheduled to travel to Kano for the first leg before finishing at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi in the second leg.
