Goals from Shafiu Mumuni and Benjamin Eshun ensured Ashantigold SC beat lower division side Desire Academy 2-0 in a friendly match at the Obuasi Len Clay stadium on Saturday.
The Miners have been preparing for the return fixture of their match against Akonangui FC of Equatorial Guinea in the preliminaries of the CAF Confederations cup. Coach Ricardo Da Rocha used the low profile match to assess his team ahead of the all important game against Akonangui with the sole aim of qualifying the team to the next round after securing a 1-1 draw away from home in the first leg, where they scored first.
Striker Shafiu Mumuni put the his side in front 20 minutes into the first half after which Desire Academy lifted their game but could only keep the score at 1-0 before half time.
Benjamin Eshun doubled the lead for Ashantigold at the 67th minute with great strike to cement the lead. 2-0 it ended at the Len Clay stadium and Brazilian coach Da Rocha is impressed with his side’s performance as he saw “improvement” in his team against Desire Academy.
“I’ve seen an improvement in my team after today’s game. We’re more focused on the game against Akonangui. All we want is a win for our supporters and Ghanaians”, Da Rocha told the media after the game on Saturday.
Ashantigold will host Akonangui FC on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the Len Clay stadium for the return leg of the Confederations Cup preliminaries following the 1-1 draw in the first leg in Equatorial Guinea.
