Asante Kotoko head coach Kjetil Zachariassen’s agent has hit back at people calling for the sacking of his client as head coach of Asante Kotoko following their Champions League exit in the hands of Etoile du Sahel, saying the calls for the head of the coach is “too early”.
Zachariassen took over the coaching job of Asante Kotoko in July and was tasked to guide the team to the group stage of the CAF Champions League which the then coach CK Akonnor had qualified the team to. The Norwegian gaffer has however failed to fulfill the set target after Kotoko suffered 3-2 defeat to Tunisian side Etoile Sportive du Sahel over two legs of the final qualifying phase.
Many sports pundits have called for the coach to be fired having failed to meet his set target including some Kotoko fans who believe the coach blew away a fine opportunity to qualify the team to the group stage, having won the first leg 2-0 at home and should be shown the exit.
Meanwhile, Zachariassen’s agent, Charles Kouadio has stated that it’s too early to call for the sacking of the coach because even FC Barcelona loses football matches.
“Even Barcelona lose sometimes but I think it’s too early to talk about sack because he still has another opportunity in the Confederation Cup”, Kouadio told Fox FM in an interview.
According to agent Charles Koadio, his client, Kjetil Zachariassen was not tasked by Asante Kotoko to qualify the team to the group stage of the Champions League as it’s been reported, but to was brought in for Africa, which comprises of both the Champions League and the Confederations Cup and NOT specifically for the Champions League.
“No, no, no, it wasn’t so, he was brought in for Africa, nothing like….Champions League was not specified. Confederation Cup is part of Africa also, there’s nothing bad if Kotoko wins Confederations Cup also”, he stressed.
Officially, Asante Kotoko have not commented on the future of coach Zachariassen but rumours have gone rife that the Norwegian risks losing his job after the Champions League exit.
