Ghana’s Black Stars B have been left financially challenged in camp ahead of their match against The Stallions of Burkina Faso in the quarter final stage of the ongoing West African Football Union (WAFU) Cup of Nations tournament in Senegal on Friday evening.
According to Media Officer of the Black Stars B Richmond Opoku Afriyie, the team has been left cash-strapped in camp as they prepare to face Burkina Faso this evening with hopes of avoiding being beating by same opposition for the third time.
Winning bonuses and per diems due the players and the technical team members are still yet to be paid since Ghana began their title defence in the tournament with a 1-0 victory over Gambia, but according to the Media Officer, they have been assured by the sports ministry that these bonuses will soon be paid as they are being worked on.
“There is no money here [in camp], nobody has money to attend to issues should something happen right now”, Opoku Afriyie told Fox FM in an interview.
According to him, though the unexpected is not expected, should a player pick up a serious injury which require scan, the team and the management officials have no financial lubricants to carry out such exercise.
“We are not saying something should happen but if any player picks up injury and we are to go for scan, nobody has money to deal with that now but we are however focused on the game ahead of us this evening”, he said.
According to reports, the team’s basic financial needs are currently being catered for by the Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association, Mr. Francis Oti Akenteng who is with the team now in Senegal working for CAF and for the the GFA.
The Black Stars B will play against the Stallions of Burkina Faso in the quarter finals of the tournament this evening at 8:00pm.
