The Black Stars B are are highly motivated intrinsically by “good will” message released by the Sports Ministry, wishing the team well in the WAFU Cup final match between Ghana and Senegal on Sunday, Media Officer Richmond Opoku Afriyie has stated.

In a release signed by the sector minister, Honourable Isaac Asiamah on Friday, the sports minister, on behalf of the ministry, government and the good people of Ghana sent a good will message to the Black Stars B wishing them the best of luck in the final as they prepare to win the cup for the third time in six years.

“The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah (MP) on behalf of Government and people of Ghana conveys a message of good will to the home-based Black Stars in their final match of this year’s West African Football Union (WAFU) Cup of Nations against the host nation, Lions of Senegal on Sunday, 13th October, 2019”, the statement read.

According to Opoku Afriyie, the players are not focused on money as they gear up to make a name for themselves and to win the trophy in the interest of Ghana and for their own selves.

“We’ve not placed our minds on money issues, name is very important so we are not looking at money, we are looking at the glory and when we get that we know all other things shall be provided”, Richmond Opoku Afriyie told Fox FM, speaking in an interview on Fox Sports Talk.

The Black Stars B Media Officer further stressed, that the players are convinced of receiving anything due them after winning the Cup. He maintained that the arrival of the good will message from the Sports Ministry brought ecstasy to the camp gingering the players ahead of the final match on Sunday.

“The release sent us by the Sports Minister Honourable Isaac Asiamah, in fact when we informed the players the guys are highly motivated, they said this is exactly what they wanted; to hear something from an official (of the government. They said the release has really encouraged them, it has informed them that the nation is happy about they fact that they’ve been able to send Ghana into the medal zone”, he revealed.

The players have their eyes fixed on the trophy with intrinsic motivation drawn from the sector Minister’s message that reached the camp on Friday.

“We are highly highly motivated, intrinsically we are motivated, all our eyes are fixed on the cup that by 8:00pm then every Ghanaian is smiling so that everyone will be happy, that’s the purpose for which we are here”, Opoku Afriyie concluded.

The Black Stars B won the WAFU Cup in 2013 as hosts, beating Senegal in the final and repeated the feat in 2017 when thy thrashed Nigeria 4-1 to win their second title as hosts. Ghana will win the cup for keeps should they beat Senegal on Sunday, 13th October, 2019.
