On 25th September this year foxfmonline.com reported that former Black Stars skipper Charles Kwablan (CK) Akonnor is set to be named assistant coach of the senor national team as he is set to replace Ibrahim Tanko on the technical bench, and the story has now been validated a month after our initial report pending official announcement by the Ghana Football Association.
Other media outlets did report that the changes to hit the Black Stars technical team will see goalkeepers’ trainer Richard Kingston and Coordinator Stephen Appiah both replaced as well as Akonnor replaces Tanko.
Contrary to such reports, we can reliably report, that the changes set to hit the technical team will see only CK Akonnor as the only new face in the technical team as Kingston and Appiah will both retain their positions.
Tanko who is currently the head coach of the Ghana U-23 side the Black
Meteors, will be made to focus on the Meteors team as he prepares the
team for the CAF U-23 AFCON set to commence on 8th November to 22nd.
Coach CK Akonnor will join the Black Stars technical team that will sit on the bench against South Africa for the 2021 AFCON qualifier on the 14 of November as Ghana hosts the Bafana Bafana boys at the 15, 000 capacitor Cape Coast stadium.
However, Akonnor will be offered an official contract by the GFA after the two AFCON qualifier matches against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe.
