Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko are perpetual rivals in Ghana football and their fans never want to be defeated in the hands of the other be it on or off the field results. This contest for the bragging right stretches to the extend of arguing as to which one between them wears the best brand of jerseys for football matches and training.
Hearts of Oak’s jerseys are provided by English sportswear manufacturers Umbro, after the Phobians signed a three years kit sponsorship deal with them last year. Kumasi Asante Kotoko on the other hand have their jerseys provided by Portuguese kit manufacturers Strike.
Despite the obvious international recognition Umbro boast of, supporters of Asante Kotoko believe the Kotoko Strike jerseys are the best ahead of that Umbro.
On Wednesday, British sportswear marketing and retail firm SportsDirect along with German based sports marketing giants Sportspar released a list of 100 best sports jerseys in 2019 with Hearts of Oak’s Umbro Home kit ranked 1st in Africa and 32nd in the world.
Asante Kotoko was missing in the list of 100 clubs whose jerseys are ranked best, and Hearts of Oak’s Public Relations Officer Kwame Opare Addo says the ranking is a clear affirmation that Hearts of Oak’s jersey is the best and everyone should accept it.
“Right from the beginning unless he who doesn’t want to speak the truth that will compare Umbro to something else, we know where Umbro belongs to”, Opare told Fox FM in an interview, responding to the ranking.
In his submission, Opare insisted that the brand Umbro worn by Hearts of Oak is only comparable to Addidas and Nike and anything else is a mere strategy to defend one’s products.
“If you compare Umbro to Addidas, Nike then we know that you are doing good comparison”, he insisted.
Kwame Opare Addo believes that the ranking clearly shows that it has settled the argument as to which club has the best jersey brand in Ghana and everybody must accept it.
“We knew that people must defend their products as well but this one (ranking by SportsDirect) shows clearly, very very clear that it has settled all the argument, the colours are the best, the brand is the best so everybody must accept it because we are on top now, we are the best”, he directed.
The great communicator further assured fans of the club that the next designs to come will be much more beautiful and of high grade than the current one.
