A 78th minute strike from Liberty Professionals hero of the day Alhassan Mubarak has handed his side their second win of the 2019/2020 league season as the Dansoman based club shocked all “doubting Thomases” to hold dow WAFA to a 1-2 home defeat in Sogakope on Friday.
Twice in the game Liberty professionals took the lead against WAFA and fought on to restore the 3 points they dramatically lost to city rivals Hearts of Oak at home last Sunday when they beat the Sogakope boys in week 6 fixture of the Ghana Premier league on Friday afternoon.
Former Division one side Unity FC striker Elvis Kyei Baffour fired the Scientific Soccer Lads into the lead in the 30th minute after sending goalkeeper Sabi Acquah the wrong way from the penalty spot.
WAFA were forced to keep to their half in the first half of the game as Liberty bossed the game for most of the minutes, ending the first half with the 1-0 lead.
Sampson Agyapong climbed off the bench to grab the equalizer for the home side with a fine curled shot from the penalty box to restore parity in the 71st minute.
Liberty professionals kept on pressing until the 78th minute when Alhassan Mubarak scored again for the away team to restore the lead. Despite the fighting spirit of WAFA, Liberty Professionals kept the momentum to ensure the game ends with victory for them for the first time at the Red Bull Arena.
It ended 2-1 for the visiting team Liberty Professionals. Liberty now sit 9th on the league log with 9 points from 6 games after picking their only second win of the season at one of the most difficult grounds in the league.
WAFA’s skipper Abukari Ibrahim was named Most Valuable Player of the match after the game despite his side tasting their first home defeat of the season to Liberty Professionals.
