With heart full of sorrow and pain we announce to you the demise of former Ghanaian World Champion Alfred Kotey popularly known as Cobra. Information reaching ghanasportpage.com indicates that his sudden demise happened today in his apartment in the United States after battling a long illness.
According to top boxing consultant Yoofi Boham, it’s true that Kotey has pass away. Yesterday the Doctor invited coach Kwame Asante to come over as he was on life support and had already been declared “Brain Dead”
When he he fell, he became speechless, then followed by stroke, the Doctor who was waiting for relatives as dementia had set in. He battled for his life.
Born 3 June 1968 in Bukom, Kotey represented Ghana at the 1988 Summer Olympics and held the WBO Bantamweight Championship he won by defeating then undefeated titlist, Rafael Del Valle of Puerto Rico by unanimous points in the UK on 30 July 1994.
