Obuasi based Ghana Premier League side Ashantigold SC has announced the club will carry out a test on its playing body and all backroom staff for the novel coronavirus disease.

The test for the players and staff of the Obuasi based club has been scheduled for three days, starting from Saturday, August 7, 2020. The exercise will start with the playing body, who will start theirs on Friday, August 7 and finish on Saturday, August 8, 2020. This will be followed by the backroom staff whose turn has been slated for Wednesday, August 12.

According to a statement published on the club’s official website, “The exercise would be conducted by our medical team with the support of Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research and Tropical Medicine (KCCR)”.

Ashantigold SC, like any other Ghanaian football club, are preparing for the possible return of football domestically by October, and at the same time reshaping themselves in wait for their participation in the CAF Confederations Cup competition next season.

Reports in the local media had earlier claimed that some persons had tested positive for covid-19, but the club has as well debunked such claims.

Below is the full statement released by Ashantigold SC:

We would like to emphatically state that, none of our players and officials have tested positive for the novel Corona Virus.

The club’s screening exercise is scheduled to take place this week; results will only be known after players and officials have been tested. All contrary publications should therefore be disregarded and treated with the contempt it deserves.

The playing body is scheduled for a screening exercise on Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8. Whiles the entire back room staff would undergo testing on Wednesday, August 12, 2020.

This decision is necessitated by Management’s objective to prepare the team for a possible resumption of football activities in Ghana.

The screening exercise would be conducted by our medical team with the support of Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research and Tropical Medicine (KCCR).

The club successfully went through FIFA’s Pre-Competition Medical Assessment (PCMA) last month. It is therefore expected that these medical assessment procedures will inform Management’s decision and prepare the team ahead of the new season.
