Six days into office as the new Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko, Nana Yaw Amponsah has come under intense scrutiny regarding his ability to deliver, and latest on the list of his doubters is former Accra Hearts of Oak midfield king Esme Mends, who has described him as a “pretender” who incapable of doing the job.
Esme Mends launched a scathing whip on the CEO who many see as the savour of the club’s continental competition woes, expressing his disappointment on “whoever made the decision to appoint him as the new CEO of Kotoko”. In his submission, the renowned player scout predicted that Nana Yaw Amponsah will definitely fail at Kotoko because the club is “too big for people like” him.
Esme Mends who revealed he was managed by the now Kotoko CEO as a player, disclosed that he knows him deeply and for his experience with him, he has no reason to believe that Amponsah will take Asante Kotoko to the promised land.
“I don’t believe Nana Yaw Amponsah is cut for the job”, Esme Mends stated in an exclusive interview with ghanasportspage.com. “He cannot do the job due to how I know him and I know him deeply and based on that, in fact we’ve come a long way. I have moved with him for long, I will not say anything untrue but as to what he did and what he didn’t do I can’t say on air but I know and I’m really really disappointed in whoever made the decision to appoint him as the new CEO for Kotoko because the Kotoko job is not a job for people like Nana Yaw Amponsah”, he criticised.
Expanding his assertion, Esme Mends explained that he is not against Nana Yaw Amponsah neither does he wish him bad, but he is certain he will fail. Mends went on to express worry over the fact that Asante Kotoko failed to make the right decision at this crucial time by entrusting such a position of the club into the hands of such a neophyte so to speak, and predicted his failure.
“For me I know he’ll fail, I don’t wish him bad though but I know he’ll fail, and it pains me that Kotoko didn’t make the right decision at this moment of time. He is a pretender, Nana Yaw Amponsah is a pretender, he alleged.
