Ghana Premier League side Asante Kotoko have pledged to donated an amount of GH¢5,000 to support the injured juvenile footballers during the Offinso accident.
This was disclosed by the CEO of Asante Kotoko, Nana Yaw Amponsah during the unveiling of the club’s new management team at the Sports Hotel in Kumasi on Tuesday.

According to the ace football administrator, the money is to help the victims of the Offinso accident who are receiving treatments at the hospital.
It would be recalled that ghanasportspage.com earlier reported that eight young footballers from Africa Vision Academy – a colts football club in the Ashanti Region died in a ghastly car accident at Offinso in the Ashanti Region last Saturday, and Asante Kotoko, who suffered similar incident in 2017, costing them the life of the club’s equipment officer Thomas Obeng Asare, have pledged a financial assistance.

“I will like to pledge on behalf of the Board and management and Asante Kotoko fraternity, that we will donate GH₵5000 to help care for the injured who are currently receiving treatment in hospital, and when it’s time for funeral for the departed souls we will also contribute our quota”, Nana Yaw Amponsah announced.

Reflecting on Kotoko’s tragic bus accident in three years ago, the CEO stated the persons from different walks of life came to the aid of Kotoko and this inspires them to do same for the victims of the Offinso River accident.

“Not long ago Asante Kotoko found ourselves in similar situation, and all and sundry came to our aid, so it is important that we lead the charge to help our brothers. And I call on all of Ghana football, other clubs to help us put together some packages to help our junior brothers from colts team to revive and resurrect from such a tragedy”, he appealed.

According to a GFA report, 34 young footballers of Africa Vision Soccer Academy were involved in the accident, claiming the lives of eight footballers as the minibus they were traveling on plunged into the Ofinso river.

unfortunately, six of the young footballers died on the spot while one who was in a critical condition died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi on Sunday.

Ten of the victims were treated at St. Patrick’s Hospital and have been discharged while others are still receiving treatment at the various hospitals. The premier league club CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah extends his condolences to the lost lives and wishes those who sustained injuries very well to recover soon.
