Black Stars striker Jordan Ayew is expecting positivity aganst Qatar, and has entreated the team to do better than their output against Mali last Friday as coach CK Akonnor and his charges face the 2022 World Cup hosts on Monday.
Ghanaians were thrown into a state of disappointment as the Black Stars fell to a 3-0 defeat in the hands of Mali last Friday in a friendly match, and Ayew expects a better game against Qatar the the two nations face off on Monday afternoon. The Black Stars display against Mali was far below the expectations of Ghanaians, who have subjected the team and the coach into loads of criticism.
Speaking ahead of the game against Qatar, the leading striker for the Stars, Jordan Ayew, acknowledged the criticisms in good faith and charged the team to put up a better performance as they come up against Asian side.
“It’s a game where we have to do better. We weren’t good enough in the first game, we all know, we are all professional players and we all know we didn’t` do well against Mali and we need to do better and at least start by having a good solid performance and after, the results will follow. But the most important thing is to have a very good performance as a team and obviously the result will follow,” Ayew told the FA communications team.
Intuitive of the expectations of Ghanaians however, Ayew craved their indulgence to exercise little patience as the coach takes time to rebuild the team. The Crystal Palace striker is hopeful of a strong team for the Black Stars in a short possible time.
“let’s have in mind that we are building a new team and it’s going to take a bit of time so we need to be a bit patient. We need to make sure that we don’t repeat the mistakes that we did a couple of days ago we make sure we don’t repeat them tomorrow and make sure that we put in a solid performance to redeem ourselves,” he added.
Ghana takes on Qatar at the Mardan Sports Complex in Antalya, Turkey with kickoff slated for 3:30 PM GMT.
