At the end of a match without relief, the two teams never managed to get their way (0-0). A draw that does not suit either team.
As part of the sixth day of the Premier League, Manchester United hosted Chelsea at Old Trafford. Invigorated by their success against Newcastle (4-1) and then against PSG (2-1) in the Champions League, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men approached this clash with renewed confidence. The trend was not necessarily the same for Chelsea held in check by Southampton (3-3) and Sevilla FC (0-0) in the Champions League.
For this poster, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lined up a 4-2-3-1 and included Mata, Bruno Fernandes, and Daniel James to feed Marcus Rashford. For his part, Frank Lampard opted for a 3-4-3 and named Kurt Zouma and N’Golo Kanté among others. After the first quarter of an hour to say the least indigent, Chelsea was frightened with Edouard Mendy who totally missed his transmission to his defender, the ball was running right next to the amount (30th).
Edinson Cavani makes his debut for Manchester United
A ball that had the merit of awakening the twenty-two players but neither the successive attempts of Fernandes (31st) and Pulisic (33rd) did not worry the two goalkeepers. The Red Devils were more enterprising offensively and Rashford, who was well-launched into the deep by Fernandes, hit Mendy (35th). Just before the break, Juan Mata saw his curled shot pushed into a corner by Mendy (41′). On his return from the locker room, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer attempted a double poker move with the entries of Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani (57th).
El Matador had a great opportunity on a Fernandes cross, but his clever deflection was just wide (58′). After the hour mark, Frank Lampard tried to breathe new life into his team with the entries of Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount (71st). Unfortunately, these changes had little impact on the face of the match. In extra time, Manchester United thought they would open the scoring with a superb curled strike from Rashford but Mendy stepped in and saved his side (90-1). With that poor draw, Manchester United remained in 15th place and Chelsea moved up to sixth in the standings.
