At the end of a very pleasant match, the Bretons never really existed against a seductive Andalusian formation and bow logically (1-0). Meanwhile, Manchester United managed the perfect run and slapped RB Leipzig with a hat-trick from Marcus Rashford.

On the occasion of the second day of the Champions League, Stade Rennais moved to Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan to face Sevilla FC. Defeated by Krasnodar (1-1) on the first day of Group E, the Bretons had to leave Andalusia with a positive result, in order to stay in the race for qualification. For their part, Sevilla wanted to win for the first time at home in this group stage. Thus, Julen Lopetegui lined up a 4-3-3 with the trio Ocampos, de Jong, Munir in point. Julien Stéphan also relied on a 4-3-3 and included Marvin Martin and Clément Grenier in the middle.

The Rennes start to the match proved complicated, and Munir well served by Ocampos saw his volley hit the crossbar of Gomis (7th). Very quickly, Stade Rennais lost Rugani to injury (16th). Accused in front of their goal, the Rennes players could thank their goalkeeper Alfred Gomis in a state of grace who won his duels against Diego Carlos (23rd) and Ocampos (27th).

When the last Breton rampart did not shine, the latter was saved by one of his own. On a de Jong delivery, Koundé saw his header saved on his line by Bourigeaud (29′). Rennes reacted sporadically with Terrier whose crushed strike did not worry Bounou (32nd). On the return from the locker room, Sevilla had another opportunity to open the scoring.

Stade Rennais gives up, Manchester United unwinds

Following a cross from Koundé, Munir came alone against Gomis but did not fit (51st). Quite logically, Julen Lopetegui’s men opened the scoring. On the left, Acuna distilled an excellent cross for De Jong who opened his foot well and deceived Gomis (1-0, 55′).

The Andalusian team missed the break by De Jong’s header who hit a dazzling Gomis tonight (63rd). We had to wait until the 70th to see a Rennes framed strike. On a free-kick, Grenier fired a nice strike well pushed back for Bounou (70th). At the end of the match, Stade Rennais was still shaking on a heavy strike by Jordan that hit the crossbar (77th).

The Bretons could not get rid of Sevilla FC and bowed out for the first time in this group stage. Victorious PSG (2-1) at the Parc des Princes on the first day, Manchester United wanted to confirm with the reception of RB Leipzig at Old Trafford. The Red Devils came on the field in 4-4-2 with the titles including Van de Beek and Pogba in the middle of the game. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s flock took the lead after the quarter of an hour of play. Paul Pogba infiltrated the German defense and distilled an offering for Greenwood that set up Gulacsi (1-0, 21st).

In the last quarter of an hour, United were finally detached thanks to Marcus Rashford well served deep by Fernandes (2-0, 76th). Two minutes later, the England striker scored a brace (3-0, 78′). At the end of the match, Anthony Martial took part in the penalty shootout (4-0, 86′).

In extra time, Martial distilled an offering for Rashford who scored the hat-trick (5-0, 90-2). Manchester United took sole control of Group H. In the other matches of the evening, Lazio Rome traveled to Belgium to face Club Brugge. Inzaghi’s men opened the scoring on the quarter of an hour thanks to a beautiful shot wrapped up by Correa (0-1, 14th).

Just before the break, Vanaken equalized for the Belgians on penalties (1-1, 41st). Dynamo Kyiv was traveling to Hungary to face Ferencvaros. The Ukrainians took control of the operations thanks to a penalty from Tsygankov (0-1, 28th). Lucescu’s men made the break just before the break by De Pena ideally served by Buyalski (0-2, 41st).

The Hungarians reduced the score by Nguen just before the hour of play (1-2, 59th). Ferencvaros came back to score in the final second’s thanks to Boli (2-2, 90th). Borussia Dortmund, meanwhile, had the worst of it to get rid of Zenit. Jadon Sancho released the BVB on penalties (1-0, 78′). In extra time, Haaland gave the BVB a precious success (2-0, 90-1).
