The saying that “what men can do women can also do and even do it better” is a great inspiration for Ghana’s senior national female team captain, Elizabeth Addo as the Black Queens skillful midfielder is certain of her ability to compete with the men on the field of play.
In an exclusive interview with ghanasportspage.com, Elizabeth Addo insisted that she is highly capable of playing in the men’s premier league along with the men, and would welcome a deal from the most successful club in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) history – Asante Kotoko.
According to the Black Queens skipper, she has played with men since her infancy and that makes her capable of playing male football at the professional level. Elizabeth Addo maintains she is ready to accept an offer from any club from the GPL that may come calling. Asked whether she can play for Asante Kotoko, the dynamic ex Rivers Angels F.C. star responded in affirmative, but attaches stern condition.
“I can play for any premier league team”, Elizabeth Addo told ghanasportspage.com. “Yes I can play”, she answered when asked whether she can play for Asante Kotoko.
Beyond her ability to compete with the men in the Asante Kotoko team, Addo will join the Porcupines provided the financial package is much juicier.
“I can, I’m ready but that will depend on the money involved. If Asante Kotoko makes an offer to sign me I will gladly accept it”, she confirmed.
Addo admits the overpowering stamina of the men in the league compared to her as a woman, but insists her qualities, such as her ability to give tailored passes can make her succeed. Moreover, she feels referees will as well protect her, considering her status as a woman playing against men, and these will be catalyst to her success.
“The difference is that they are men and their strength supersedes mine, but you know the qualities I possess; like (giving accurate) passes and the likes. Moreover, me being a female if they (the male players) touch me the referee will whistle in my favour. The game is as well not necessarily about strength but the brain, knowledge and vision”, she stressed.
Elizabeth Addo spent the 2019/2020 league season in China, playing for Jiangsu Suning Ladies Football Club. She is currently in Cyprus where she signed for Apollon Ladies FC, and is set for her Champions League debut for his new club.
