Creator of the famous Ballon d’Or, France Football has decided not to award the prestigious award this year. On the FIFA side, despite the cessation of competitions, the various postponements and cancellations are considered that football players still deserve to be rewarded.
Awarded annually by the FIFA Board of Directors since 2016, The Best FIFA Football Awards ™ 2020 will be presented this year at a ceremony on December 17th. Determined at the end of a voting procedure bringing together both the votes of the captains and the coaches of all the national teams on the planet, the online votes of the supporters, as well as the choices of a panel of more of 200 media representatives, the winners will soon be chosen.
Open from November 25 to December 9, the votes have already designated three finalists in each category. For that of Player of the year, Cristiano Ronaldo (Italian champion with Juventus), Lionel Messi (author of a white season with FC Barcelona) and Robert Lewandowski (German champion, winner of the Coupe d ‘ Germany and Champions League winner with Bayern) form the podium. We will have to wait another six days to know the identity of the winner. Last year, Lionel Messi won the trophy, ahead of Virgil van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo.
