Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah has paid a hearty tribute to his national teammate Emmanuel Agyemang Badu after the latter announced his retirement from international football.
Agyemang Badu ended the year 2020 on Thursday, Deceber 31 with an announcement of his retirement from the Ghana senior national team when he took to his Twitter account to share with his numerous fans and followers his gratitude for Ghana.
The fomer Udinese midfielder made his international debut for Ghana in June 2008 against Lesotho, and continued to play significant roles in the national team in major tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup finals and the Africa Cup of Nations. He won the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup with Ghana for the first time in the history of African countries, after scoring the winning penalty during a marathon shootouts in the finals against Brazil in Egypt.
Badu, 30, has however, been absent from the national team since 2017, and has now decided to call it a day on his national team career.
Colombus Crew defender Jonathan Mensah and Emmanuel Agyemang Badu belong to the same generation in the Black Stars set up, having played together to win both the AFCON U-20 and FIFA U-20 tournaments in 2009 for Ghana.
Jonathan Mensah took to Twitter to acknowledge the immense contribution of his former national teammate Agyemang Badu to Ghana, and to pay tribute to him following the announcement of his retirement from the national team.
