Asante Kotoko have assured their numerous fans and Ghanaians of measures being taken by the club to challenge what they called “suspicious” covid-19 results of their players which was “handed” the club ahead of their Champions League tie against Al Hilal on Wednesday.

Al Hilal were scheduled to host Asante Kotoko in the return leg of the Champions League second tie of the preliminary round on Wednesday, but the game was eventually called off after seven (7) players of Asante Kotoko and four (4) of the club’s officials allegedly tested positive for coronavirus. According to Asante Kotoko, the genuineness of the covid-19 results given them after the tests they conducted is in serious doubt, and they believe the results had been tempered with.

A statement signed by the club’s Acting Communications Manager, David Obeng Nyarko on Wednesday states, that the club was handed a covid-19 results of their players that alleges, that 7 of their players had tested positive for covid-19, but the results of 1 player was not presented. Secondly, 4 of their officials had also allegedly tested positive.

Asante Kotoko have described the said results as “dubious” and have since petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to address the issue.

“The alleged dubious positive results had many suspecting features indicative of the fact that it did not reflect the reality on a true and proper medical grounds. We have since filed an official protest through the Ghana Football Association to CAF”, the statement from Asante Kotoko read.

The Porcupine Warriors have assured their fans and Ghanaians of their firm decision to use every legitimate means “to ensure that the right thing is done”.
