President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku has sent to all Division One and Women’s Premier League clubs a well-wishing message as they prepare for the start of the 2020/2021 league season.
The Division One Premier League starts on Saturday, January 9, 2021 and the Women’s league follows. Below is the message from the GFA Boss to the participating clubs:
Dear Colleague club Owners, Presidents, CEO’s and Administrators.
The year 2020 presented us all with challenges that were beyond human comprehension but we stood the test of time and evolved to get this far.
I am happy that our beloved Women’s Premier League is a few days away from kick-off and all the sixteen clubs are feverishly preparing for the big kick-off. The 16 Women’s Premier clubs have shown desire and hunger for this season’s competition and its heart warming sitting back and observing the passion and hard work that is being displayed.
The GFA would like to remind all 16 participating clubs that pledges made before the start of the season remain unchanged. The first-placed team would receive a GHc50,000 cash reward. The second-placed teams would take home GHc30,000 and the third-placed teams in each of the two zones would receive GHc15,000.
Each of the sixteen Women’s Premier League clubs would receive a Ghc2,000 worth of grocery shopping voucher from our proud sponsors, Melcom. Beyond this, the winner of the Women’s Premier League would receive 40 gold medals, while the second-placed team takes home 40 silver medals.
To the 48 Division One League Clubs. I think it’s extremely important that we enter the season with the right mentality. Let’s come together to fight the pockets of violence that occur at some League centers to complete an incident-free campaign.
With just a few hours to the start of the National Division One League, I would like to thank you for believing in the process. The journey will not always be smooth but I believe that with the right approach and commitment, we shall reach our final destination. Kindly be reminded that for the first time, each winner of our three Division One Zones will take home GHc50,000 as prize money.
The second-placed team would receive GHc30,000 as the second prize in each of the three zones and most importantly, the top three teams in each of the zones would receive GHc5,000 worth of grocery shopping vouchers from our proud partners, Melcom. Additionally, each of the three winners would also receive 25,000 to prepare for the GPL season the season after.
The winning teams would receive 40 gold medals, the second-placed teams would receive 40 silver medals and the third placed teams would receive 40 bronze medals.
On behalf of the Executive Council and the staff at the secretariat, we wish you good luck, and may the best teams emerge victorious.
