Interim CAF President Constant Omari led a delegation of football officials including FIFA chief Gianni Infantino to meet the President of Cameroon Paul Biya on Friday (15 January 2021).
The delegation, that also included African football legend and CAF adviser Samuel Eto’o, took place at the Unity Palace in Yaounde.
The meeting was held just one day before the Central African country hosts the Total African Nations Championship (CHAN), Cameroon 2020.
Infantino is visiting Cameroon for the first time, and together with Omari and Eto’o held fruitful talks with the leader of the country.
“Delighted to meet today with FIFA President Gianni Infantino on the eve of the opening of the 2020 Africa Nations Championship,” President Biya wrote.
“We discussed the development of football in Cameroon in particular and in the world at large.”
Infantino is in Cameroon to attend the opening match of the CHAN tournament which is designed exclusively for home-based players.
Sixteen countries will be fighting for the title and have been drawn into four groups with four teams in each group.
The top two sides from each group will progress to the knock-out stage of the competition.
The competition will be played in the cities of Yaounde and Limbe while Douala will host two groups at Japoma Stadium and Stade de la Reunification.
The tournament will start on 16th January and end on 7th February.
