Qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain knows their opponent next round of C1. The capital club inherited the title holder Bayern Munich.
It’s D-Day. After battling to eliminate FC Barcelona in the round of 16 of the Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain finally knows the identity of their opponent for the quarter-finals on the occasion of the draw.
A double confrontation will be disputed in two rounds: the first leg on April 6 or 7 and then return a week later (April 13 or 14). And if Mauricio Pochettino’s men no doubt hoped to find the team that everyone wanted to shoot, FC Porto. They ultimately inherited the worst possible draw.
The capital club will indeed meet the defending champion, Bayern Munich, for a remake of the 2020 final (1-0 victory for the Germans). On paper, this duel promises to be very complicated for the Ile-de-France residents, but also very spectacular between the two best attacks of the competition (24 goals for Bayern, 18 for PSG). Small statistic: there has never been a draw between these two teams in the Champions League.
Finalist of the last Final 8 in Lisbon, the club of the capital will have the “advantage” to approach this confrontation in the skin of the outsider and to receive on the return, even if Paris will have more than ever to prove its value.
And that’s not all. Full draw obliges, the Rouge-et-Bleu have also been fixed on the poster of the semi-finals which awaits them in the event of qualification.
And again, they were not spoiled since it is the winner of the duel between Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund who will stand in front of them. For the rest of the posters, we will be entitled to the revenge of the 2018 final between Real Madrid and Liverpool. Finally, Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea did very well by shooting FC Porto.
