Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe says Black Stars coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor ‘does not know what he is about, dropping eleven local players from the Black Stars for foreign-based players.
According to the former President of the Ghana Football Association, the decision dents C. K Akonnor’s competence as a senior national team coach.
After inviting over 22 local players to camp ahead of the upcoming AFCON qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe, C.K Akonnor released his squad last week, dropping half of them and replacing them with foreign-based players.
Speaking with Kumasi-based Gye Nyame FM, the Hearts of Oak Board Member, opines the coach should have improved the players to the level needed to play for the Black Stars even in the instance that they lacked the quality.
“Local players definitely if we have a very high standard, they have every right to play,” he says.
“In the first place, why should he invite the local players for the Black Stars,” he quizzes “You invited them because you saw very good materials.”
“If a coach assembles the local players and later on you drop them and ask for so-called foreign-based players, then the coach definitely doesn’t know what he is about because if you are a good coach, you should be able to turn them around or send them to a level that they could play very well when they are playing for the nation.”
“When coaches know what they are doing, you see them solving problems”.
“Players are always trained by coaches all over the world. You don’t invite them and then release them to go,” he concludes.
