Real Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Chelsea in the semi-final first leg of the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
Christian Pulisic gave Chelsea the lead before Madrid got the leveler through Karim Benzema, all this happening in the first leg. The second half was a bit of a non-event but the second half of the tie next week at Stamford Bridge should be riveting but Chelsea have the advantage.
Chelsea caught Madrid on the counter. Mount did the hard yard down the left and picked out a wonderful cross for Pulisic who had all the space. He found Werner inside the box but Germany’s shot was blocked by Thibaut Courtois, but he should have done better.
Madrid’s high line was caught again, Rudiger picked out Pulisic who rounded off Courtois before comfortably grabbing the opener for Chelsea.
Madrid had a corner that was played short to Marcelo who clipped one to the back post. Militao won the first ball and his header was flicked on by Casemiro inside the six-yard box and Benzema showed superb finishing skills from close range to blast it past Mendy.
