West African Football Academy (WAFA) stunned Berekum Chelsea in an entertaining Ghana Premier League matchday 22 opener on Friday.
The Academy boys beat Chelsea 3-2 at the Golden City Park to secure what is their second away of the season so far.
Berekum Chelsea had a good start, scoring in the first minute through Bright Amponsah.
However, Justus Torsutsey restored parity for WAFA on the 22nd minutes before Enock Asubonteng a minute later put the away side in front the first time in the game.
Chelsea with just two minutes to end the first period were awarded a penalty, which captain Stephen Amankona made no mistake as the opening half ended with four goals.
In the second half, Issa Basit reclaimed the lead for WAFA setting his side up for two consecutive victories for the first time since December 2020.
Coach Proper Nettey’s charges held onto the lead and finished the match as eventual winners gaining a vital three points to boost their top-four hopes.
Chelsea on the other hand has suffered a back to back defeat for the first time this season.
Following the win, WAFA have climbed up to 6th with 32 points on the table while Berekum Chelsea continue to wallow at the bottom half of the table with 27 points, a difference of 5 points above the drop zone.
