President of Ghana Nana Akufo Addo has challenged Ghanaians to rally behind Black Stars Coach Charles Kwablah Akonnor to succeed in his role as technical head of the Senior National football team.
The president who is leading a team to solicit funds to support the Black Stars for the AFCON 2021 title, and a place at the 2022 FIFA world cup in Qatar told a host of personalities from the Banking Sector of his desire to see the country break its AFCON trophy drought.
In the second of many breakfast meetings to be held by the President, top Banking executives assured the president of their quest to see the initiative materialize.
The President told the top officials of the quapities of Akonnor, and the need to support him to succeed.
“WE HAVE OUR FORMER CAPTAIN CK AKONNOR OF THE BLACK STARS WHO IS NOW COACH OF THE TEAM HERE, HE’S BEEN TO THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF THE GAME, WE BELIEVE IN HIM AND WE MUST ALL SUPPORT HIM TO SUCCEED,” NANA ADDO TOLD THE GATHERING.
Akonnor is part of a 5 man committee tasked to ensure the National team gets adequate funds for the two major assignments in 2022.
The presidential breakfast series with the top CEO’s is expected to raise a total of $15 million dollars while the government tops it up with $10 million.
Initiated by the new Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, the president will meet CEO’s of the Telecommunication industry on Monday, May 3 for their pledge to the National course.
