Matchday referee for Hearts of Oak versus Elmina Sharks, Maxwell Owusu Mensah has admitted that he made errors during the game at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday night.
The class one referee and his assistants awarded a penalty to Hearts of Oak in the first half, a call that delayed the game for more than 5 minutes when Elmina Sharks defender Kingsley Adjei was adjudged to have handled a goal bound shot inside the goal area, but video replays showed the ball hit his shoulder.
The referee made further mistakes when he sent off the wrong player for the penalty offense.
Maxwell Owusu further disagreed with his assistant line 2, Emmanuel Dei who had flagged for a retake of the penalty after goalkeeper Lord Bawa Martey had come off his line to stop Victor Aidoo’s spot-kick but Maxwell Owusu ignored and many other calls that had the fans boing at him.
However, a remorseful Maxwell Owusu has taken it to his Facebook page to render an unqualified apology to football fans for his poor performance on the night.
“This was absolutely not a good decision. I’m not proud of it. A lot of people have been hurt.
I am hurt too”
“Lessons learnt in the hardest possible way.”
“As genuinely as this mistake might be, steps must be taken to avoid this in the future. This should never happen again.”
NEVER AGAIN SHOULD THIS HAPPEN!!!
