Legendary goalkeeper Richard Kingson has revealed his worst moment during his days at Black Stars. The manner in which he was sidelined in a game was his worst moment.
“My worst moment is how I was sidelined. We were going to play a match and the technical handlers only told me I was not the first choice on Friday. I could have been told earlier to prepare both physically and psychologically but it did not happen that way. It happened under coach Platvi.”He told Asempa Sports.
Richard Kingson called for help for goalkeepers in the country. The former Black Stars goalkeeper believes there is the need to fix the basics for goalkeepers to avoid any struggle in their professional career.
“I usually watch Olympics but the rest is like highlights.
“To be frank with you, Ghanaians we need to do a lot about our goalkeeping department. Goalkeeping is not only practical but theory as well. Our goalkeeping department is coming down.” He told Asempa Sports.
Richard Kingson further called on the Ghana Football Association to be readily available and help goalkeepers.
“The FA should help. Our local keepers can also play. We need to help them.. The basics is the problem. We need to get it done so that they can advance. We can use Prampram as the center for training.
He revealed his admiration for some goalkeepers who extinguished themselves in their career. He had role models both in and outside Ghana.
“Salifu Ansah was my role model in Ghana and Peter Schmeichel was my role model outside Ghana.”
He shared his experience on training facilities for goalkeepers in Ghana.
“The facilities for training goalkeepers are few in Ghana. Even at Black Stars is the same. There are so many things used in training goalkeepers which helps in their reflexes and agility and they are all missing.”
“Goalkeeping is not only on the park, life outside the pitch also counts. Sometimes you need to hit the gym before going for training. After training you assess yourself and begin to ask questions from your goalkeepers coach. You need to watch matches and watch your role model as well.”
