The 2020/21 European season will officially conclude on Saturday night when Manchester City play Chelsea in the Champions League finals.
The two teams have already met thrice this season, but the 1970/71 Cup Winners’ Cup semi-final, in which Chelsea won both legs 1-0 to progress to the final, remains the two sides’ only tie.
Ahead of the match, which important facts do you need to know?
The finalists
It will be an all-English final as Premier League winners Manchester City play rivals, Chelsea, in what will be the 66th European Cup final.
Chelsea are in the final for the third team in their history, while it will be the first for Pep Guardiola’s side.
The Blues lost their first against Manchester United, before winning against Bayern in their second in 2012.
Venue
The match will be played at the Estádio do Dragão, home of FC Porto, where the 2019 UEFA Nations League decider was held.
The final match was originally scheduled to be played at Istanbul’s Atatürk Olympic Stadium, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, that had to be changed.
Will there be fans?
A total of 16,500 supporters are allowed in the stadium, with each club allocated 6,000 tickets. A further 1,700 tickets made available for the general public sold out on Tuesday 25 May 2021.
What else?
Five substitutions are allowed, with a sixth permitted for each side if the final goes to extra time. The matchday squad will comprise 23 players.
Lastly, who are the ‘home’ team?
The winners of the Paris vs Man. City semi-final were established as the nominal home team by a draw made for administrative purposes in March.
Both finalists may wear their first-choice colours, but if there is a clash then the club designated as the away side must use an alternative kit.
