Bibiani Gold Stars returned to winning ways on match day 22 of the Division One League at Dun’s Park on Wednesday.
The league leaders recovered from Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Asokwa Deportivo to beat Star Madrid 2-1 in the midweek clash. Gold Stars had to work their socks off as they came from a goal down to win the tie 2-1.
Kwadwo Twumasi drew the first blood for the visitors in the 32nd minute to send shivers down the spine of the home fans. They kept their composure and defended very well to end the first half 1-0 in their favour.
Back from recess, Gold Stars upped their game and snatched the equalizer through top marksman Prince Owusu Kwabena in the 55th minute. Prince beautifully converted a spot kick to send the home fans into raptures. With the game heading to a draw, Prince Taifa popped up from nowhere to smash the ball into the back of the net for the winning goal inside 90 minutes.
The win takes them to 50 points after 22 matches in the Division One League.
Elsewhere at the Nana Gyamfi Park, second placed Skyy FC beat Proud United 1-0 to keep their chase on the leaders. Ebenezer Mamatah scored the only goal of the match in the 38th minute.
Emmanuel Adu Siaw and Raymond Kwofie scored for Samartex 1996 in their 2-0 win against Achiken FC at Sameraboi.
