Asante Kotoko SC on Saturday held Aduana Stars to a goalless drawn game in Dormaa.
The Fire Boys hosted the Porcupines at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park in Dormaa in matchweek 27 of the Ghana Premier League.
Kotoko went into the game with an opportunity to claim the top spot from Hearts of Oak who have a game in hand against Berekum Chelsea in Accra on Sunday and they made their intentions known early.
Barreto’s men dominated in the early minutes of the first half, but clear chances were far and few as Aduana remained resolute in the defence.
The home side warmed themselves into the game in the final minutes and sent men forward in search of the opener. Razak Abalora who was returning to the team after missing the game against WAFA stood tall between the sticks and defended his place as the number one goalkeeper for the Reds with some outstanding saves.
Sam Adams asked all the questions in front of his teaming fan base only to meet an inspired Abalora between the sticks to end the first half goalless.
In the second half, Mariano Barreto made some changes to his team with Latif Anabila, Sarfo Taylor, and Evans Adomako coming in for Keyekeh, Gyamfi and Okrah respectively.
Asante Kotoko then upped their game in search of their first league goal at the dreaded pitch in 10 years only to meet a human wall screening the goal post.
Evans Adomako nearly found the winner for the Porcupines but his last-gap header was wide.
Asante Kotoko will go on top of the Premier League log momentarily on 47 points, a point above Hearts of Oak who plays Berekum Chelsea on Sunday.
