Prosper Harrison Addo, General Secretary for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has tasked Asante Kotoko to apologize to the football fraternity for ejecting a journalist from Len Clay Stadium in their matchweek 30 game against Karela United at the Len Clay Stadium.
The cagey encounter game was tie 1-1 after 71 minutes. Emmanuel Gyamfi scored the opening goal for Kotoko but striker Richard Berko levelled things for Karela around the hour mark.
However, a penalty was awarded by Referee Jacob Aduntera after Evans Adomako appeared to have been fouled by Karela United goalkeeper Richard Baidoo brought down Evans Adomako in his box. The penalty generated heated controversy as replays show the goalkeeper got a touch of the ball before making contact with the player.
A sports journalist who was reporting for MAX FM in Accra during the course of his reports said the decision by the referee was a wrong one.
The journalist found himself at the wrong side of the Kotoko fans after he pronounced that referee Aduntera made a wrong call from the incident as replays show the goalkeeper got a touch of the ball before making contact with the Kotoko attacker.
The action by the supporters has been criticized by the football circles and Prosper Harrison has charged the club to apologize to the football fraternity insisting no club has the right to bundle any journalist from any stadia.
“I expect Asante Kotoko to apologize to the football fraternity for bundling a journalist of the Len Clay Stadium after saying the penalty awarded against Karela United was a wrong call,” he told Kumasi based Kessben FM.
Pictures which have surfaced online show two fans carrying the journalist out of the stadium after he reportedly commented that the situation wasn’t a penalty.
