Head coach of Legon Cities FC, Bashir Hayford was full of praise for his opponent Hearts of Oak for their dexterity shown in their win at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Hearts of Oak beat Legon Cities 2-1 this evening in a week 30 week fixture to reclaim top spot.
The Phobians have been ruthless in recent weeks, claiming victory week in week out but Legon Cities quest to stop the Phobians did not materialised as they narrowly beat them.
Captain Fatawu Mohammed located Patrick Razak, who picked on rushing Afriyie Barnie. He dribbled his opponent in Cities penalty box who fetched Kwadwo Obeng Junior to tap home Hearts lead in the 28th minute.
The host were having problems dealing with the dexterity of Razak and Barnie. In the 38th, Legon Cities failed to deal properly with a corner and midfielder Ansah Botchwey latched onto the ball from range to cushion Hearts lead.
Just as the Phobians thought they were going to recess with the cushion, Victorien Adebayor freekick reduced Cities deficit in the 42nd.
Both teams probed in the second half to either consolidate their lead or equalise but it ended in favour of the visitors who are first occupants on the League log.
However, in a post-match press conference, Bashir Hayford applauded Hearts of Oak’s resilience on the night.
“Hearts had their chances and they took it. We put them under pressure in the second half. Kudos to them, they managed the pressure well. I won’t take anything away from them.”
“Samuel Boadu is my son. He came to me to bless him after the game. He said he always want to be like me. I am impressed with what he has done at Hearts of Oak. He deserves all the praise.”
Hearts of Oak next take on Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium in what could be the league decider for the two glamorous clubs in the country.
