Medeama Sporting Club have reported their goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for going absent without leave.
The Tarkwa based club on Thursday, reported the 26-year-old to the association on grounds that, the shot stopper has gone AWOL since May 19. According to the club, the former Asante Kotoko SC goalie has not reported to training and it’s unclear why he has not made it to training since the above-mentioned date.
A statement chanced on by your authoritative online portal reads; “The player who still has a running contract is yet to report to camp/training. Effort to reach him on phone and other means have proved futile and abortive”.
“In a serious breach of obligations, the player has deliberately positioned himself in a manner as to deny the club the uses of his services as per the contract between the player and the club”.
“Even though we have initiated steps to deal with the situation within our own internal mechanism, we deem it appropriate to notify you, as regulators of the game, so that nobody takes undue advantage of the situation in future.”
However, the player finds the letter to the Ghana Football Association fascinating and shocking having been told by Medeama SC technical director that his services are no more needed by the Tarkwa outfit.
In an interview, Eric Ofori disclosed that he suffered an injury which he later requested for a permission to treat the injury with the consent of the team Doctor.
He was later informed by the club’s technical director of his inability to join the team upon arrival from treatment room.
“It is never true that I have run away from Medeama”, Eric told Sunyani based radio Space FM.
“I had an injury during our game against Olympics, meanwhile our third choice goalkeeper wasn’t also fit so out of pains, I had to be a back up to Frank “, Eric Ofori told he said.
“After our third choice keeper returned, I asked for permission to go for treatment with the consent of the team Doctor”.
“I came back to training grounds after my treatment, and to my surprise the Technical Director told me point black that they can’t work with me again”.
“So am even surprised to see that, they have reported me to the GFA”.
“I am waiting for the GFA to call both parties”, he added.
“Alawa” as he is passionately called, has six months remaining on his contract with Medeama SC.
Already, Premier League trio Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC and Legon Cities have shown interest in signing him after he ongoing season.
