Asante Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah handed 5-year ban by GFA

Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nana Yaw Amponsah has been slapped with a 5-year ban by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

This comes after Nana Yaw Amponsah’s club Phar Rangers announced on Monday, June 7, 2021 that it’ll no longer operate.

Knowing the effects a withdrawal of a club from the Division One League considering the history of such occurrences in past seasons, GFA at 3:19 pm on the same day published on its website that it shall activate the regulations relating to the matter.

Few days later, Phar Rangers after several stakeholders engagement and calls from the public rescinded its decision.

However, a decision from the DC said the decision to withdraw from all Ghana FA competitions was a breach of the regulations and ‘must be stated that a withdrawal of a club from all competitions is not a light-hearted matter of fancy especially for a reason that the club is defunct. In view of this, Nana Yaw Amponsah who is the majority shareholder of Phar Rangers will join other directors of the club to serve the five year ban.

The decision by the Disciplinary Committee means that the former football agent will not be able to hold his position as the CEO of the Porcupines as he will not be qualified because of the ban. Ghanasportspage.com asking the following questions:

  1. Who is the majority shareholder at Phar Rangers?
  2. Who is the owner of the Phar Rangers?
  3. Did Nana Yaw Amponsah sell Phar Rangers before taking Asante Kotoko CEO job?
  4. Why should it affect Asante Kotoko should in case Nana Yaw Amponsah remains as CEO for the Porcupines?
