Asante Kotoko acting communications director, David Obeng Nyarko, says head coach Mariano Barreto, has the backing of the club’s management.
The Portuguese trainer has come under pressure with some fans suggesting that the club axe him after the season.
Barreto led Kotoko to a 1-0 defeat to fierce rivals Hearts of Oak, which put the latter in pole position to win the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League title.
Speaking with Pure FM, Obeng Nyarko said the manager has good statistics and thus has the ‘full support’ of the management.
“He has our full support. Frankly, Mariano Barreto has done so well statistically. Football is an interesting game…if we had gotten 1-1(against Hearts of Oak) and climbed to the top, everyone would have praised Barreto that he his an expert and all that.” He told Pure FM
Mariano Barreto signed a one and half year contract with Asante Kotoko in March this year and has since won 10, drawn 5, and lost 2 of the 17 matches he’s managed.
The Porcupines are three points behind Hearts of Oak who lead the Ghana Premier League log with 59 points with three games left to conclude the season.
Kotoko in the MTN FA Cup are in the round of 16 and has a scheduled encounter against Second tier side Asokwa Deportivo between July 6-July 8.
