‘Don’t compare any player in the league to me’ – Gladson Awako

Great Olympics captain Gladson Awako has said that no player currently playing in the Ghana Premier League should be compared to him.

The diminutive attacking midfielder has been turning heads with his performances in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League with supporters and some connoisseurs of the game tipping him for the player of the season award.

The former TP Mazember midfielder has netted 6 goals so far in the league, assisting 5 and has won 5 MVP awards.

There has been a series of comparison as to who is the best player currently between Hearts of Oak’s Ibrahim Salifu and Awako after the duo impressive run of form in the ongoing season.

However, reacting to the comparison, Awako believes he has done enough this season to be compared to other players.

“So far, I’ve assessed myself as a player and I think I should have done more based on my expectations prior to the start of the season. There were a lot of things I wanted to achieve but unfortunately I couldn’t but in all, my season has been very good looking at where I was coming and where I am now, I am grateful to God,” Awako told Kumasi-based Silver FM.

“Many doubted me when I first came back home in terms of the age wise, they said a lot but I’ve proven many people wrong and I believe my season has been fruitful and I pray it continues like that”

“He’s doing well (Salifu Ibrahim), he’s the guy who is not doing bad but I am doing me, I believe I’ve done enough so I don’t think players from the league should be compared to me because you cant compare his age to mine and where I’ve taken Olympics from and where we are now, I don’t think any player from the league should be compared to me”

Awako is incontestably one of the standout players at the capital-based giants. With three matches to go in the 2020/2021 Premier League, he will be bent on helping the Dade Boys to earn a top four finish as they take on Eleven Wonders in Accra on Sunday.
