Head of Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Youth and Culture, Hon. Johnson Kwaku Adu has expressed his fear of Ghana losing hosting right for 2023 All African games due to increased issues of hooliganism.
The 2020/2021 Ghana football season has seen lot of incidents of hooliganism in both the first tier and the second tier divisions.
The most recent case occurred on Saturday, July 3, when referee Maxwell Hanson was chased down and beaten on the field in Brong Ahofo United game against Real Tamale United in the Division One Zone 1.
Mr. Adu speaking with interview with Happy FM described the act as unpleasant could cost Ghana All African Games hosting right.
“What happened in Sunyani was an unpleasant sight to behold especially when we have the opportunity to host 2023 all African games. We can lose the host of the African Games if this hooliganism continues in our football.
“It is a threat to Ghana football and it is a threat to 2023 African Games,” the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports who doubles as Ahafo Ano South West MP told Happy FM in an interview.
“Government has made provision of five hundred million dollars for the African Games, it’ll be very sad and disappointing if Ghana is not able to host the African Games.”
The Ghana Football Association is yet to apply any punishment on the fans involved or the home team regarding the nasty incident.
