Asante Kotoko suffered what was their loss number six at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park to Bechem United on Sunday.
The Hunters were 2-1 winner over the Porcupines as forward Steven Owusu net brace to make up for Bechem’s 4-0 loss to the Reds in the reverse fixture.
Kotoko’s defeat means their arch-rivals Hearts of Oak are crowned champions of the 2020/2021 season with a game to spare.
Bechem had an early lead through Owusu’s toe pool shot inside the box, giving Kotoko goalie Razak Abalora no chance.
Kotoko pulled parity with Solomon Sarfo Taylor capitalizing on goalkeeper’s howler by firing into the yawning net.
On the stroke of half time, Bechem regained the lead after a player was brought down in the opposing box.
Steven Owusu stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.
The home side managed to protect throughout the second period to stay safe from relegation with the victory.
Bechem have a trip to Ebusua Dwarfs next week while Asante Kotoko host Elmina Sharks on the last round of matches.
