Bechem United President, Kingsley Owusu Achiau, has proposed ways the Ghana Football Association(GFA) can put an end to betting and incidences of match fixing in the local league.
According to the GFA’s Executive Council(Exco) member, the football governing body should pay the referees with sufficient amount and also review all games after every match week.
His comments are in reaction to trending issue of alleged match fixing between Ashanti Gold and Inter Allies last Saturday.
The Miners won the encounter by beating Allies 7-0 in Obuasi with the latter conceding ‘dubious’ five goals and scoring two goals in addition.
Speaking in interview with Asempa FM, King Agama as he popularly known in the football circles said: “We can’t trust our players due to betting although they might genuinely win.
“Therefore, we have to eradicate it(betting) from our game, pay our referees well and review all the matches.
“The referees should also stop asking for money, some would demand 100,000 GHC and tell you ‘I don’t care what you will give to the linesman’. We have all paid some before…
“It is true that what’s going won’t help so we have to firmly save our game.”
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing with the GFA integrity officer and the police probing into involved parties in the said match.
