Ashanti Gold SC turn up in extra time to stylishly kick out Berekum Chelsea in an intriguing MTN FA Cup semi-final encounter.
The Gold and Blacks ease past Chelsea in the extra time, beating the latter 4-1 at the Cape Coast Stadium to progress into the finals for the first since 2012.
Eric Esso, Amos Nkrumah, Amos Addai, and Seth Osei were on the scoresheet for the on-time champions as Stephen Sarfo grab a consolation for Chelsea.
The Miners were dominant during the opening half but couldn’t find the back of the net despite coming close on numerous occasions.
Lo and behold Ashgold got the deserving lead from the last kick of the first half with a sumptuous freekick by Eric Esso blasting home from 22 yards out giving Chelsea goalkeeper, Samuel Adjie no chance.
In the second , the Gold and Blacks went to sleep aiding Berekum Chelsea to pull parity through substitute Stephen Sarfo on the 60 minutes.
The Miners after conceding got their heads back in the back the game with both sides exhibiting some good football.
Stephen Amankona almost put the Berekum side in front for the first time in the game but goalkeeper Kofi Mensah was up to the task, producing a brilliant save to keep the scoreline intact.
The match went on to end a goal apiece in regulation time and thus traveled to extra time.
Ashanti Gold reclaimed their lead just 3 minutes after the match resumed through Amos Kofi Nkrumah’s long range effort.
Amos Addai made it three by going around the goalkeeper on the 105th minutes.
Seth Osei put the icing on the cake in the second half of extra time with three minutes left on the clock.
The Miners following the win will play the winner of the semi-final two between Medeama SC and Hearts of Oak SC, which kicks off later tonight.
