Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey could be facing yet another spell on the sidelines because of injury. Sports scientist Dr. Rajpal Brar offers insight into Thomas Partey’s latest injury setback which he sustained in the first-half of Arsenal’s pre-season friendly against Chelsea
The Ghana international suffered a suspected ankle injury in the first-half of the Gunners’ 2-1 pre-season defeat at the hands of Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, sending fans into a meltdown in the process.
Given the numerous fitness setbacks Parteysuffered last season, supporters will be hoping that this latest injury isn’t too serious and won’t cause him to miss too much game time.
Although that might be wishful thinking as medical expert Dr. Rajpal Brar, DPT has offered his opinion on how long Partey could be on the sidelines for.
Found the specific mechanism of injury for Partey (see picture),” he wrote on Twitter. “This is typically indicative of a ‘high ankle sprain’ aka syndesmotic tear. “These typically come with a 4-6 week return timeline if a grade 1 injury.
However, he is at risk of missing games against Chelsea and Manchester City later this month.
So it seems that a grade 1 injury will be somewhat of a best case scenario forArsenal and Mikel Arteta, but anything higher could be devastating news before the season has even begun.
