Current Asante Kotoko players are substandard materials – Club legend Mfum

Asante Kotoko legend Wilberforce Mfum believes most of the current crop of players of his former employers are substandard materials.

The 84-year-old former Ghana international has been left disappointed in the Porcupines after they missed out on the Ghana Premier League title and also bowing out of the MTN FA Cup to end the season trophyless.

After watching Kotoko finish below Hearts of Oak, Mfum has been left brokenhearted by the kind of performance the players exhibited in the just ended season and he has questioned their potentials to don the Kotoko colors.

Mfum believes bad recruitment policy is the reason behind the club’s recent poor performances on the pitch.

”Kumasi Asante kotoko problems now is how they recruits players,” Mfum told Fish FM.

”This current team is not good enough and they does not deserve to play for Kotoko” Mfum told Fish FM.

The legendary attacker remains one of Ghana’s most celebrated goal poachers in history.

The Buldozer captained Asante Kotoko in the 1960s and won the league title with the Porcupine Warriors in 1958, 1963/1964, 1964/165, 1967/1968 and 1969.

Mfum was predator in front of the goal and he combined very well with Osei Kofi and Mohammed Salisu.

He also paid his dues to the Black Stars, scoring Ghana’s first goal in the Africa Cup of Nations in 1963 against Tunisia. Ghana progressed to the final and beat Sudan to win their first continental trophy.
