Hasaacas Ladies FC made history on Thursday night by beating Nigerian club Rivers Angels 3-1 to win the maiden edition of the WAFU Women’s Champions League and complete an historic treble.
Yusif Basigi’s side had already clinched the league title and the Women’s FA Cup and made it a clean sweep with victory at the Champroux Stadium in Abidjan.
Veronica Appiah opened the scoring in the 1st minute before Vivian Ikechukwu leveled for the Nigerians.
Perpetual Agyekum restored Hasmal Ladies’ lead in the 42nd minute before Azuma Burge put the icing on the cake for the Sekondi-based club.
Azumah’s goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of Rivers Angels’ comeback as Hasmal Ladies saw out the final stages comfortably.
The result caps a dream season for Hasaacas Ladies and means the ‘Dooos’ become the first female club to win treble in West Africa and in Ghana.
Meanwhile, the two sides have already booked their ticket in the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League which will be held in Egypt.
