The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe has appealed to the private sectors to partner with the organisation in shaping CAF’s future and support development plans.
CAF together with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of Cameroon had a successful draw for the final phase of the 33rd edition of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon 2021, which took place on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at the Yaounde Conference Centre, Cameroon.
CAF President Dr. Motsepe, who was accompanied by the Secretary-General, Veron Mosengo-Omba, and the Local Organising Committee of Cameroon leaders were all present at the draw. Dr. Motsepe briefed the congregation on the plans to develop football in Africa.
“We must get the private sector to partner with us. And when the private sector partners with football it makes good business sense,” said Dr. Motsepe.
The CAF President spoke about a need to invest at the grassroots level – mainly in schools football and youth development infrastructure. “We must encourage every football club to have an academy, a youth development center,” said the CAF President.
“As Africa, we must run our football affairs with dignity. While we might not have the financial muscles, we should get into meaningful partnerships,” added Dr. Motsepe.
