Hearts of Oak safest pair of hands, Richard Attah has narrated how the match-fixing talks towards the end of the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League season cost him a move to a top African club.
The Ghanaian game was hit with a match-fixing scandal especially getting to the end of the season after Inter Allies’ Hasmin Musah scored two deliberate goals in a game against Ashantigold in Obuasi.
That game left many to question the integrity of the league which ended last month with 2000 CAF Champions League and 2004 CAF Confederation Cup winners Hearts of Oak lifting the title after finishing top of the table with 61 points after 34 matches.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Angel FM, Richard Attah recounted how he missed out on a move to join a top African club with few games to wrap up the season due to match-fixing talks the dented the image of the league.
“Getting to the end of the season, I had an offer from a top African club.”
“We started talking but they later called off the deal. Initially, I didn’t understand but later the club explained that because of the betting and match-fixing issues that happened in the Ghana League, they didn’t trust the league.”
“That issue was the reason the deal was called off.”
The 26-year-old managed to keep 14 clean sheets in all competitions to help the Phobians clinch their history double in just recently ended season.
His exploits has earned him a place in CK Akonnor’s team for September upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa.
