Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan says he was gutted by the reception he received from the public following his return to the Ghana Premier League.
Almost a year ago, Accra-based Legon Cities beat Asante Kotoko to sign Ghana’s record goal scorer to play for them—his return to the domestic league for the first time since 2003 when he featured for Liberty Professionals.
But it was not the kind of return he anticipated. It was hostile—full of mockery and ridicule! An instance was when Gyan was jeered by Asante Kotoko fans in Legon Cities match against them at Accra Sports Stadium.
Speaking to Asempa FM in an interview, the former Sunderland striker said he expected Ghanaians to welcome him with love but he is unperturbed at the situation.
“I was expecting the fans to respond positively to my Ghana Premier League comeback, but unfortunately it wasn’t so but life goes on,” he said.
