Arsenal have suffered yet again another humiliating defeat following a 5-0 thrashing to Manchester City at Etihad.
Arsenal had a good start to the game but it was Manchester City who opened the scoring just after seven minutes of play. Gundogan headed a ball in after a beautiful cross from Silva to hand City the lead.
Minutes later, City doubled their lead through Ferran Torres after another awful defending from Arsenal’s backline. There was a VAR check to look for a possible foul on Chambers but the goal stood.
Red card
Arsenal were reduced to ten men after Granit Xhaka was sent off for a foul on Cancelo. The midfielder dived in with both feet off the ground while going in for a tackle with Cancelo near the left touchline. The VAR had a very brief look at that incident, before confirming Mr. Atkinson’s original decision.
Just before halftime, City grabbed the third through Gabriel Jesus. Torres released Grealish down the left and the playmaker then made a run at a back-pedaling Chambers in the box. He picked out Jesus who was just six yards out and he put the ball at the back of the net.
At the start of the second half, City added the third through Rodri from outside the box after Torres laid the ball off for the midfielder.
In the 85th minute, City added fifth and it was the second for Torres, heading him Mahrez’s cross.
